The early bird catches the worm

«Each and every time, it’s a blaze of colour.» Albert Gonzalez takes shots of the bright yellow Chastè peninsula. Together with fellow photographer Joanna Schurte, he wants to capture autumn in the mountains. This explains why they have been out and about since the first light of day. «We started out over there at the boathouse/barchiröls, from where we took photos of the peninsula Chastè in the sidelight. It really lights up the autumnal colours of the larch trees.» Autumn in Sils – simply magical!

Capturing the light moods

Albert always carries his reflex camera around with him when he is in the countryside. «I want to capture moods and freeze intense moments in time.» Joanna also loves searching for her own themes to shoot: «Looking through the lens of a camera, you develop an eye for the beauty of our countryside.» The two photographers are now on the way to the Chastè peninsula, looking out over Lake Sils towards Piz Margna. It will soon be midday and the sun is playing hide and seek with the clouds. «I’m happy to leave the bright blue sky to the postcard photographers,» laughs Alberto. «I focus on shooting scenes that are calm yet dramatic.»

Autumn in the Engadine

Joanna agrees with Albert: «I love sudden changes of light. They change the appearance of the water, sometimes it looks dark blue, sometimes turquoise and sometimes bottle green. Like right now. Look how perfectly it coordinates with the yellow of the larch trees!» It will be a impressive day for them both. «The golden autumn with its special light in the Engadine is unique» enthuses Albert.
