Lecture: Journeys in the Life and Work of A. Schwarzenbach and F. Nietzsche

In the 1880s, Friedrich Nietzsche, forced into early retirement due to illness, led a nomadic existence, searching for places where he hoped to find relief from his suffering and thus better opportunities to realize his philosophical projects. The lecture will explore how the thinker experienced and philosophically reflected on his travels. For Alfred Schwarzenbach, who described herself as an "incurable traveler," being on the move also held existential significance, not only as a condition of her work as a travel writer but also as a strategy for dealing with inner and outer conflicts.
