Yiddish Tango with Ivana Ecetová and the Peter Gulas Quartet

Argentine rhythms blend with the melancholy of Jewish music.
When different things collide, something new often emerges: This was also the case with the tango, which was born in the Argentine port cities at the end of the 19th century. Eastern European Jews were a large immigrant group fleeing pogroms in their homelands. Arriving in Argentina and full of hope for a new life, they processed their suffering musically, and Yiddish tango was born. The Peter Gul'as Trio and the singer Ivana Ecetová brought some of these sounds and Klezmer pieces to Sils. Peter Gul'as has been the pianist of one of the three Waldhaus Trios from Slovakia since 2026, and our guests probably associate him more with the salon music and classical pieces that fill our hall in the afternoon. This evening, the versatile musician reveals a new musical side. Ivana Ecetová studied opera and concert singing at the State Conservatory in Bratislava. She is a co-founder and singer of the all-female chamber ensemble "Trio Fatal" and the Ivana Ecetová Quartet – Tangoproject. As a soloist, she collaborated for several years with the "Pressburger Klezmer Band." Since 2012, she has specialized in the interpretation of Argentine tango, both as a soloist and currently with her ensemble. Ivana Ecetová – vocals; Branislav Černakovič – violin; Michal Vavro – guitar/double bass; Maroš Mráz – clarinet/saxophone; Peter Gul'as – piano
