The Maloja mountain cemetery and Giovanni Segantini's grave

While working on the painting ‘Sein’, Giovanni Segantini fell ill with peritonitis in 1899 and died at the age of just 41. The family grave of Segantini, his companion Bice Bugatti and their sons bears the inscription ‘Da presso e da lunge in terra e in cielo uniti in vita e in morte ora e sempre’. The cemetery is located at the end of Via Belagio, a side street of the Strada Cantonale.
