Cross-country classic

In classic style, skiers move in a linear, gliding motion that is reminiscent of walking or running. This technique is usually practiced on groomed trails with parallel tracks.  

Cross-country skating

This technique is similar to ice skating or inline skating, where the skis are guided at a V-shaped angle and propulsion is achieved by pushing off the edges of the skis sideways. Skating is done on wide, groomed trails without tracks.
