Val Fex

Far away from everyday life
With its wide-open meadows and pastures, shady forest areas and a varied network of trails, the Fex Valley is a true hiking paradise in summer. In winter, the 8-kilometre-long valley promises a white wonderland. The only sounds you hear are the tinkling of bells on the horse-drawn carriages and the crunch of your own steps in the snow. Around 100 people still live in the Fex Valley today. And some of them ensure that in addition to the spectacular scenery, you will also enjoy some excellent local cuisine. Enjoy hiking with all your senses in summer and winter.

Travelling by carriage
One of the most cosy and unusual ways of exploring the Fex Valley during summer or winter is in a horse-drawn carriage ((verlinken auf Kutschenfahrt)). The ride takes you through unspoiled countryside, surrounded by majestic 3,000 metre mountain peaks. If you don't want to hire your own horse-drawn carriage, you can hop on the horse-drawn omnibus in summer. It has a set timetable and takes you to Platta, Crasta or to the Hotel Fex, depending on your preference.

History of the Fex Valley
The Fex Valley is still as it is depicted in engravings and old photos. If you follow the path through the narrow and in places steep Fexer Gorge, you will soon be in Fex Platta, the dreamy village in the wide valley floor surrounded by magnificent meadows. The Fex Valley was already populated in the early Middle Ages. In 1303, the first document speaks of a valley called "Fedes". The name makes it clear: sheep (feda) were grazed here. Later - the valley is now called "Feitz" - a chronicler writes: "The valley is rich in meadows with high hay yields and magnificent sheep pastures."

Cultural heritage in the Val Fex
The old quarry at the back of the idyllic Val Fex is being brought back to life and is being made accessible to guests and locals alike. After it was abandoned in 1964, it has become quiet there. The Fexer slabs are a historical and cultural asset that can only be found in the Val Fex. A visit to the Alp da Segl (summer only) offers an insight into the history of the quarry. In summer, the trip can be rounded off with a visit to the "Cheva Plattas da Fex" quarry, which is around 15 minutes from the Alp das Segl.
