But there is more to it than what you see at a first glance. The Waldhaus is also playful and relaxed, and very open to families and children. It is luxurious, but not opulent, vibrantly alive, but comfortably old-fashioned. And it is quite large, but run on a very personal basis. This rare and enchanting mix reflects our fiercely guarded independence. The Waldhaus is still a true family affair without any outside shareholders or managers – something which has become exceedingly rare for a hotel of its size and class in Switzerland. In the characterful public spaces and in the rooms and suites, the charm of the former patrician house is palpable. Thanks to three restaurants, a hotel bar and the vaulted pleasure cellar with vinoteca, fümuar and cinema, guests have a welcome choice of food and ambience. The spacious property in the light-flooded plain between the lakes of Sils and Silvaplana has a hotel garden with a wind-protected terrace, a well-tended sand tennis court, a golf course and a spa with views of the Engadine mountains. Guests appreciate the heated ski and wax room and enter the cross-country skiing network directly at the hotel. In summer, an own rowing boat on the Silsersee as well as hiking trails and bike trails directly from the hotel inspire.

The family hotel with a magnificent dining hall in decor of Art Nouveau is situated right next to the Nietzsche house. Already the famous poet and philosopher did appreciate the service and fine cuisine of the hotel. It was also the starting point for many of his walks through the Engadine landscape, which was so dear to his heart. Still today, numerous hiking trails and cross-country ski trails start in close vicinity of the hotel. Even the cable car Furtschellas is near the village, located just outside of Sils.

The house and most of the rooms are decorated with pine wood. The hotel, family run by the Courtins into the second generation, is most authentic and boasts an outstanding bar/living room with fireplace, a lovely garden with sun deck as well as a dining room with a lake view and an exceptionally well stocked wine cellar. There is also a "Stüvetta" spezializing in cheese and meat foundue and grill specialties. Fresh and organically grown, the food is of the highest quality. (Suppliment charge of CHF 30.00 per person for half board). The entire house is equipped with wireless-LAN and there is an internet work station available in the beautiful library. There is direct acces to the hiking trails, cross country ski tracks and the bus.

A part from our hotel was rebuild in summer 2007. The hotel Fex is an ideal starting point for ski- and hiking tours and cross country trips.
