Whether forest paths, meadow trails, rough gravel or zigzagging past rocks - trail runners like it varied - the main thing is to be outside in nature. With Sils as a starting point, you have only the best of everything on your doorstep.

Jogging over hill and dale

If you are looking for a special kind of nature experience and want to really work out, you will find it in trail running. Although time is not usually a priority, trail runners like to challenge themselves. Whether for the route choice particularly many altitude meters or varied underground is sought, is left to each skill level and fitness level itself. Whether you are a beginner or an old hand at running, the lake landscape and the unique mountain world around Sils holds exciting trail running routes for every type of runner.

Something for everyone

The Fex Valley offers gently rising, dense forests with a wide range of excellent resting opportunities and can be made as difficult as you like with variations of the valley sides. Those who like it flat can run along the lakes of Sils and Silvaplana and for the traverse lovers the Via Engiadina is perfect. There is no shortage of steep, alpine trail running routes, such as to Piz Grevasalvas, and those who like to run only uphill will find the best routes with the support of the Furtschellas and Corvatsch cable cars.

The suitable substrate

For those who are not familiar with the relatively new term «trail running», the young sport can be described as jogging or running in a natural environment with a minimal amount of paved surface. Those who know Sils know that the surroundings are hard to beat in terms of nature, and as unique as the panorama is, as varied is the soil. From rooty single trails in the God Laret, stony hiking trails to the Lej da Tscheppa and grassy passages along the shore paths of the Silvaplana and Silsersee, everything is there to make a trail runner's heart beat faster.

The interactive running map offers a good geographical overview of the possibilities directly from Sils and in the Engadine. For those interested in analogue running, the Engadine Trailrunning Map in pocket format is available at the information points and other public places and can also be ordered via the Sils Tourist Information.

Orienteering: Running and searching

At over 2000 meters above sea level, an orienteering post network is set up each summer on Corvatsch and Furtschellas. From the beginning of July to the end of August, the 15 posts can be run with the help of the orienteering map. The orienteering map is available at the valley station Furtschellas or Corvatsch and at the Sils Tourist Information for CHF 5. If you want to compete in an orienteering race, you can take part in an orienteering race organized by the CO Engiadina.

The fact that trail running is popular is also shown by the number of growing trail running events. The Engadine, however, can count on a handful of old-established running events:
